The narrow canyon walls of Painted Gorge are colored by the weathering of rocks containing copper, sulfur and iron deposits. The upper gorge contains ancient marine coral reefs with fossilized marine life.

Camping is permitted, limited to 14 days. After 14 days, campers must relocate at least 25 miles from previous site. Please set up camp in previously disturbed sites.
