El Monte Valley River Project

Water District - San Diego

The most common use of the riverbed valley is with horses due to the soft sand. Pedestrians are typically use the valley for nature viewing, photography or dog walking.

El Monte Park and El Capitan Reservoir are located on the east end of the valley.

There is a horse staging area across the street from El Monte Park.

Hiking

Hiking is permitted on established trails. Most of the deep sandy riverbed isn't conducive to walking.

Regulations & Recommendations

No Alcohol, Smoking or Fires.

The land is owned by the Helix Water District. There are no facilities or services. Please take all trash with you.

The GPS map progressively increases detail as you zoom in to prevent information overload.

Trail Finder maps are a subset of the GPS map. Trail Finder maps of large regions do not include the lowest zoom levels. In most cases, the GPS map has two more layers of detail than the Trail Finder maps.
