Target shooting is permitted in many areas of the forest. Seasonal restrictions occur due to fire hazard. Check with the Ranger District office nearest to where you wish to visit before you shoot.

Regulations & Recommendations

Vehicles are not permitted in wilderness areas.

Wilderness permits are required for all overnight use, and for all day use in the Mt. Whitney Zone.

Trail Finder Detail

Trail Finder maps are a subset of the GPS map. Trail Finder maps of large regions do not include the lowest zoom levels. In most cases, the GPS map has two more layers of detail than the Trail Finder maps.
