U.S. Forest Service - Wilderness
The San Mateo Wilderness South Area is a developed campsite just outside of the wilderness area in the Cleveland National Forest.
Fee is required and reservations are needed during peak season. Camping outside of developed campsites is possible but you must check with the local ranger district before doing so.
Dogs must be on a leash no more than 6 feet long.
Do not bring more than two dogs or other pet to any one campsite. Guide dogs are an exception.
Horseback riding is permitted on designated trails.
Hiking is permitted throughout the wilderness area unless otherwise indicated by signage.
Hunting is permitted throughout the Cleveland National Forest during hunting seasons designated by the California State Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Hunting is not permitted in those areas where the discharge of firearms is prohibited by County Ordinance, California State law or Federal regulations and hunters must follow all laws, including no hunting within 150 yards of a residence, building, campsite, developed recreation site or occupied area. A valid California hunting license is required.
